There are some ideas that you wish no one had ever had. What might look like a good idea to someone in an R&D Department simply does not play out that way in the real world. This is particularly the case with car trends. Some of the most unpopular car trends are everywhere this year. Here are some of our least favourite of recent months.

Shine a Light

One of the most intrusive unpopular car trends is for cars to have light up badges. These are unnecessarily bright and distracting for drivers and pedestrians alike. Light up badges are also likely to be more expensive to repair in case of accident. This is part of a general trend towards inserting LED lights wherever possible.

Fake Grilles

The more advanced cars get, the fewer vents and grilles they actually need. However, this has not stopped car manufacturers from producing cars with largely decorative grilles and vents all over them. These are generally a waste of time and effort – not to mention resources.

Out of Sync

You would think that wheels were hard to get wrong. However, car manufacturers keep finding new ways to do it. One of the most unpopular car trends of the last few years has been the move towards asymmetrical wheel designs. This makes it unpleasant to look at your car – with the wheels on either side facing different directions. Even worse is that the wheels almost seem to spin in different directions.

Jewelled Headlights

You might have gathered that there is a trend to the most unpopular car trends – unnecessary over elaboration. This is perhaps best illustrated in modern headlights. You have probably seen these on the road – made up of many smaller lights, they are harder to read than regular lights without looking much better.

Burning Rubber

One of the least practical unpopular car trends has been the move towards thinner and thinner tires. Known as ‘low-profile’, these are in fact low-practicality. What might work for supercars is less useful on a bumpy British high street, or a potholed country road.
